Fermín Aldeguer surprised everyone in MotoGP by winning his first premier class race at the Indonesian Grand Prix. After some close early laps with Pedro Acosta and Luca Marini, the young Spaniard pulled away and took a clear victory. Acosta finished second and Álex Márquez came home third.
The race began with Acosta taking the lead into Turn 1, even though Aldeguer made a strong start. Francesco Bagnaia dropped to last after a poor launch, and Marco Bezzecchi also lost places. A few corners later, Bezzecchi and Marc Márquez crashed in Sector 1. Race direction announced that the incident would be checked after the race and later confirmed Bezzecchi caused the crash by trying an impossible move on the inside.
After the first lap, the top ten were: Acosta, Marini, Aldeguer, Rins, Fernández, Quartararo, Álex Márquez, Mir, Binder, and Morbidelli.
On lap 2, Aldeguer almost touched Marini when trying to pass. A second yellow flag appeared when Mir went down. By lap 4, Aldeguer managed to get ahead of Marini for second place, and Fernández overtook Rins for fourth.
The leading group of four – Acosta, Aldeguer, Marini, and Fernández – stayed close together and built a small gap to the rest. All of them were still looking for their first MotoGP win. On lap 7, Aldeguer passed Acosta for the lead. Acosta briefly took it back but lost it again at Turn 1.
On lap 9, Bagnaia crashed out at Turn 17, ending Ducati’s day early. Acosta and Marini continued to fight for second place, swapping positions several times. Enea Bastianini retired, and Álex Márquez moved up to sixth after passing Quartararo. At the front, Aldeguer increased his lead to over five seconds.
Later, Fernández and Marini made contact while battling. That allowed Rins to move into third. Álex Márquez also took advantage, and Marini dropped more places. Race control confirmed that both Márquez and Bezzecchi were sent to the medical centre after their earlier crash.
By lap 16, the top ten were: Aldeguer, Acosta, Rins, Álex Márquez, Fernández, Quartararo, Binder, Marini, Miller, and Oliveira.
Rins passed Acosta for second on lap 19, while Aldeguer’s pace stayed strong with a gap of around eight seconds. Álex Márquez then passed both Rins and Acosta to take second. Binder soon followed, moving Rins down to sixth. Marini recovered to seventh, and Binder closed in on Acosta again.
With four laps to go, the order was: Aldeguer, Álex Márquez, Acosta, Binder, Fernández, Marini, Quartararo, Miller, Morbidelli, and Rins.
Marini continued to move forward, while Miller crashed in Sector 4. Rins struggled with his tyres and fell back to tenth. Acosta regained second place, and Marini climbed to fifth.
At the finish, Fermín Aldeguer crossed the line to take his first MotoGP victory, ahead of Pedro Acosta and Álex Márquez.
